“The amount I earn is well known. My riches, my most prized possessions are my books.” The late Ethiopian ruler Meles Zenawi Asres.

Semhal Meles Zenawi is known in Ethiopia for her lavish and jet-setting lifestyle. She starts her morning off with delicious breakfast different to her late father’s steak and scrambled eggs accompanied by heavily spiced red tea, strong enough to remove paint.

The lady always looks for best nourishment. Her Holland trained eunuch private chef from Adigrat knows how to make challah French toast and cast iron waffles but the billionaire princess prefers a bowl of vegetal touch traditional soup, with four boiled eggs and roasted red pepper swimming in it.

Then Queen Marie Antoinette’s breakfast would be washed down with her favorite single malt whiskey known as the 10 year old Ardbeg, which delivers flavors of cooked apples, orange marmalade, clove and cinnamon, set against smoke and vanilla.

Semhal, who often boasts about nosing and tasting all finest malt money can buy including the limited edition of lemon and honey flavored Lagavalin; is famous for empting a couple of Ardbeg or Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban bottles in just one sitting.

In the beginning, we all (journalists) thought that, at the rate she  churns out  her ill-gotten wealth, the young lady will soon squander all her inheritance and join the miserable world of infamy where stars turned slaves and kings turned paupers beg death to take them away.

However, thanks to a whistleblower in the form of Dr. Wondimu Mekonnen, an exiled Ethiopian academic, today we know that Semhal Meles Zenawi’s net worth is 5-billion USD; all by virtue of being born to   family of a thieving tyrant and a cunning knave. No matter how she spends, lady Semhal will never run out of cash.

The extremely wealthy TPLF warlords were quick to condemn the patriotic academic Wondimu Mekonnen, calling him ‘terrorist’ and ‘a nasty piece of work.’ But they didn’t utter a word when celebrity Net worth site, respected for its accuracy earlier made a startling revelation that the dead tyrant Meles Zenawi Asres got a net worth of 3-billion USD.

This means Without speculating how much his corrupt widow Azeb Mesfin is worth or without including the enormous wealth of Bereket Kinfe- their real-estate mogul step son, or without guessing how much money is stashed away in offshore accounts for Zenawi’s two other children Senay and Marda, the tyrant who once told Ethiopians that his only priced possessions are his books; had stolen more than 8-billion USD from the indigent people of Ethiopia.

But how did he manage to carry off such a staggering amount of money unnoticed and undetected?

Just few months ago his widow Azeb Mesfin, in her attempt to bury the Zenawi myth once and for all and move on with her life, told the world that her late husband had no identity document, driver license or fixed salary; not knowing that other notorious backward despots such as the late Mobutu Sese Seko of former Zaire and the late Idi Amin Dada of Uganda had no fixed salaries as well, because they didn’t differentiate their own money from the budgets of their respective nations. They used state coffers like their private bank accounts.

Hence, in the absence of any form of accountability, for African despots past and present, stealing such huge sums has been as easy as stealing candy from a baby.

This massive heist by the Zenawi family, one of the biggest in recent memory, is the carbon copy of what the legendary Filipino thieves Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos did to the Asian nation’s downtrodden between 1965 and 1986.

After imposing Martial law similar to Zenawi’s draconian anti-terrorism law, Imelda and her let husband Ferdinand, who ruled the impoverished Philippines for 21 traumatic years, stole more than 10- billion USD from state coffers.

The money sponsored the ostentatious style of Imelda Marcos who owned more than 3000 pairs of designer shoes and funded the controversial stem cell research project in her burning desire to beat ageing and preserve her timeless beauty which once mesmerized Chairman Mao, Fidel Castro and the eccentric Gaddafi.

Today at an advanced age of 83, she is the second wealthiest Filipino politician after boxing hero and congressman Manny Pacquiao with net worth of just under 22-million USD.

Where is the other money? Would Imelda ever tell?

The Filipinos are still struggling to obtain the 600-million USD traced to a Swiss bank account and corruption remains endemic in their country as it is in Ethiopia. Although hunger for justice has not ebbed, in Ethiopia’s case, the judiciary itself is weak and extremely biased to crack the whip on the spectacular corruption which inhibits development in the world’s poorest nations.

The government of puppet premier Hailemariam Desalegn will never have the courage to go after the well-connected Semhal Meles Zenawi to recover the stolen billions.

For now, she will remain richer than US talk show Queen Oprah Winfrey and the most powerful man in Hollywood, movie mogul Steven Spielberg. Facebook founders Dustin Moskovitz and Eduardo Saverin need to work more if they are to catch up with Semhal.

The question is would stolen wealth last like the hard-earned one?

“ጴጥሮስ ያቺን” ቃል!

“ፋሺስቶች ያገራችንን አርበኞች ሽፍታ ቢሏቸው እውነት እንዳይመስላችሁ፡፡ ሸፍታ ማለት ያለ አገሩ መጥቶ የሰውን አገር የሚወር ይህ በመካከላችሁ መጥቶ የቆመ አረመኔው የኢጣሊያ ፋሺስት ነው፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ ለእርሱ እንዳይገዛ ውጉዝ ነው፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ መሬት እንዳትቀበለው የተገዘተች ትሁን፡፡” አቡነ ጴጥሮስ፡፡

ዛሬ ሐምሌ 22 ቀን ጀግናው ሰማዕት አቡነ ጴጥሮስ በግፍ የተገደሉበት ቀን ነው፡፡ እኒህ ታላቅ አባት ለሰማዕትነት ያበቃቸው ዋናው ምክንያት በወቅቱ ለተጠየቁት ቀላል ለሚመስል ጥያቄ “ቃሌን አልክድም” ብለው በመቆማቸው ነበር፡፡

ፋሺስት ኢጣሊያ አገራችንን ወርሮ ሕዝቡን ባስጨነቀ ጊዜ አቡነ ጴጥሮስ ከአርበኛው ጋር በመቆም የጣሊያንን ሠራዊት በድፍረት ሲቃወሙና አርበኛውንም ሲደግፉ ቆይተዋል፡፡ ሆኖም ከጊዜያት በኋላ በፋሺስቶች ቁጥጥር ሥር ከዋሉ በኋላ ጣሊያኖች ራሳቸው በሰየሟቸው ዳኞች ፊት አቡኑን ለፍርድ በማቅረብ ከላይ ሲታይ በጣም ቀላል የሚመስል ጥያቄ ያቀርቡላቸዋል፡፡ የጥያቄው ዓላማ አቡኑን የጣሊያን ተገዢ ለማድረግ ብቻ ሳይሆን በወቅቱ የነበረውን ሕዝባዊ ዓመጽ ለማብረድ ቢቻልም ደግሞ የብዙሃኑን ድጋፍ ለማግኘት የታሰበበት ነበር፡፡

ስለዚህም የግራዚያኒ ዳኞች አቡነ ጴጥሮስን ለፍርድ ባቀረቧቸው ጊዜ የጠየቋቸው “ሊቀጳጳሱ አቡነ ቄርሎስ እንዲሁም ሌሎች የጣሊያንን የበላይነት ተቀብለዋል፤ እርስዎም እንዲሁ ተቀብለው ሌሎችም እንዲቀበሉ ቢያደርጉ ይሻላል፤ ብቻዎን ማመጽ ምንም አይሰራልዎትም፤ ይህንን ቢያደርጉ ምን ይመስልዎታል …” የሚል እንድምታ ነበረው፡፡ … አቡኑም “ከመሞት መሰንበት” በማለት የቀረበላቸውን ምክር አዘል አስተያየት መቀበል አላቃታቸውም፡፡ ሆኖም ለእምነታቸውና ለሕዝባቸው የገቡትን ቃል ከሚክዱ ሞትን እንደሚመርጡ በድፍረት ለዳኞቹ መለሱላቸው፤ እንዲህም አሉ፤

“አቡነ ቄርሎስ ግብጻዊ ናቸው፤ ስለኢትዮጵያና ኢትዮጵያዊያን የሚገዳቸው ነገር የለም፡፡ እኔ ግን ኢትዮጵያዊ ነኝ … ስለ አገሬና ስለ ቤተክርስቲያኔ እቆረቆራለሁ … እኔን ለመግደል እንደወሰናችሁ አውቃለሁ፡፡ በእኔ ላይ የፈለጋችሁትን አድርጉ” የሚል ነበር፡፡ (ጳውሎስ ኞኞ “የኢትዮጵያና የኢጣሊያ ጦርነት” አ.አ. 1980፤ ገጽ 157)

ረቡዕ ሐምሌ 22 ቀን 1928ዓም (July 29, 1936) አቡነ ጴጥሮስ ከፊት ለፊታቸው የተደገነውን የጣሊያንን መትረየስ ሳይፈሩ ከመገደላቸው ከጥቂት ደቂቃዎች በፊት የሚከተለውን በመናገር የመጨረሻ ቃላቸውን ሰጡ፡፡

“ፋሺስቶች ያገራችንን አርበኞች ሽፍታ ቢሏቸው እውነት እንዳይመስላችሁ፡፡ ሽፍታ ማለት ያለ አገሩ መጥቶ የሰውን አገር የሚወር ይህ በመካከላችሁ መጥቶ የቆመ አረመኔው የኢጣሊያ ፋሺስት ነው፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ ለእርሱ እንዳይገዛ ውጉዝ ነው፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ መሬት እንዳትቀበለው የተገዘተች ትሁን፡፡” (ዝ.ከ.፤ ገጽ 157)

አቡነ ጴጥሮስ ይህንን ከተናገሩ በኋላ የፋሺስት የጦር መኮንኖችና ጄኔራሎች በተሰበሰቡበት አደባባይ የተሰማው የማያቋርጥ የጥይት እሩምታ ነበር፡፡ በእጃቸው ከያዙት መስቀል በቀር “መሣሪያ” በእጃቸው ያልነበራቸው የሃይማኖት አባት የተናገሩት ቃልና ያደረጉት ቆራጥ ውሳኔ የግራዚያኒን ጦር ወኔ ሰለበው፡፡ ለአቡኑ አንድ ጥይት አልበቃ ብሏቸው የመትረየስ እሩምታ ተኩስ በመልቀቅ በግፍ ረሸኗቸው፡፡

የአንድነት ከፍተኛ አመራር የህይወት ታሪክ እንዳይነበብ የቤተክርስቲያኗ አስተዳዳሪዎች ከለከሉ

የተባበሩት መንግስታት ድርጅት አለምአቀፋዊ የሰብዓዊ መብቶች ድንጋጌ አንቀጽ ዘጠኝ፤ አንቀጽ አስርና አንቀጽ አስራ አንድ የማንኛዉም አገር ዜጋ ያለ አግባብ መታሰር እንደሌለበት፤ በወንጀል ተጠርጥሮ የሚታሰር የማንም አገር ዜጋ በአስቸኳይ ፍርድ ቤት መቅረብ እንዳለበትና የፍርድ ቤቱ ሂደት አስከተፈጸመ ድርስ ደግሞ የተጠርጣሪዉ ዜጋ ንጽህና የተረጋገጠ መሆን እንዳለበት ይደነግጋል። በዚሁ የተመድ አለምአቀፋዊ ሰብዓዊ መብቶች ጥበቃ ድንጋጌ ሰነድ ላይ ተመስርቶ የተጻፈዉ የ1994ቱ የኢትዮጵያ ህገመንግሰት አንቀጽ 17 ንዑስ አንቀጽ ሁለት ደግሞ ማንም ዜጋ ያለ አግባብ መታሰር እንደሌለበት፤ ማንም ዜጋ ከፍርድ ቤት ትዕዛዝ ዉጭ መታሰር እንደሌለበትና በፍርድ ቤት ትዕዛዝ የታሰረ ዜጋም ቢሆን በአስቸኳይ ፍርድ ቤት መቅረብ እንዳለበት በግልጽ ይደነግጋል። ኢትዮጵያ ደግሞ የተመድ የሰብዓዊ መብቶች ድንጋጌ ያረቀቀችና ያጸደቀች አገር ብቻ ሳትሆን ከሃምሳ አንዱ የተመድ መስራች አገሮች ዉስጥ አንዷ ናት።

የ17 አመት የጫካ ዉስጥ ትግል ያካሄደዉና በ1983 ዓም አዲስ አበባ ገብቶ ላለፉት ሃያ ሁለት አመታት የኢትዮጵያን በትረ ስልጣን ጨብጦ የያዘዉ ህወሃት ኢትዮጵያ በፊርማዋ ያፀደቀችዉን የተመድን አለምአቀፋዊ የሰብዓዊ መብቶች ድንጋጌም ሆነ እሱ እራሱ አርቅቆ የጻፈዉን የኢትዮጵያ ህገመንግስት ማክበር ቀርቶ የሰነዶቹ ምንነት በዉል የጋባዉ ድርጅት አይደለም። ህወሀት የተወለደዉና ጥርሱን ነቅሎ ያደገዉ ጫካ ዉስጥ ሲሆን ዛሬም ከ22 አመታት የከተማ ዉስጥ ቆይታዉ በኋላ ኢትዮጵያን ያክል ትልቅ አገር የሚያስተዳድረዉ በዚያዉ ተወልዶ ባደገበትና በተካነዉ የጫካ ዉስጥ ህግ ነዉ። ህወሀትን ይዞት ካደገዉ ባህሉና ከዋና መገለጫ በህሪይዉ ተላቀቅ ማለት ዉኃ መዉቀጥ ሊሆን ይችላል፤ ሆኖም የጥቁር ህዝብ የነጻነት ምልክት የሆነዉን የኢትዮጵያን ህዝብ በጫካ ዉስጥ ህግ መዳኘትና ማስተዳደር ግን የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ በፍጹም ሊቀበለዉ፤ አለም አቀፉ ህብረተሰብ ደግሞ አፉን ዘግቶ ሊመለከተዉ የማይገባ በህዝብና በአገር ላይ የሚፈጸም ከባድ ወንጀል ነዉ።

ዘረኛዉ የወያኔ አገዛዝ የተቃወመዉን ማሰር፤ ሀሳቡን በንግግር ወይም በጽሁፍ የገለጸዉን ማሰቃየትና የዘረኝነት ፖሊሲዉንና ኢትዮጵያን የማፍረስ አላማዉን ያወገዘን ዜጋ ሁሉ አስሮ ሰቆቃ መፈጸም ወይም ከአገር እንዲሰደድ ማድረግ ከመደበኛ አገር የመምራት ፖሊሲዎቹ ዉስጥ ዋና ዋናዎቹ ናቸዉ። በወያኔዋ ኢትዮጵያ ዉስጥ ወንጀል ተብለዉ ዜጎችን ከሞት እስከ ዕድሜ ልክ እስራት ድረስ የሚያስቀጡት የፈጠራ ክሶች አፍሪካን ጨምሮ በብዙዎቹ የአለማችን አገሮች ዉስጥ የማይገሰሱ የዜጎች መብቶች ናቸዉ። የሚገርመዉ ወረቀት ላይ የሰፈረዉ የወያኔ ህገመንግስትም ይህንኑ ይደነግጋል፤ ሆኖም ኢትዮጵያ ዉስጥ ሁለት አይነት ዜጎች ያሉ ይመስል በአንድ በኩል ህገመንግስቱ የሚቆምላቸዉ ዜጎች አሉ በሌላ በኩል ደግሞ ህገመንግስቱ የሚቆምባቸዉ ዜጎች አሉ። ዜጎችን በግልሰብ ደረጃ በባህሪያቸዉና በችሎታቸዉ ሳይሆን በቡድን ለይቶ በዘር ማንነታቸዉ የሚመለከተዉ ዘረኛዉ የወያኔ አገዛዝ ስልጣኔን ይቀናቀኑኛል ብሎ ካሰባቸዉ ከሁለቱ ግዙፍ የአገራችን ብሄረሰቦች ማለትም ከአማራዉና ከኦሮሞዉ ብሔረሰቦች ጋር ለብዙ ግዜ ጥርስ ተናክሶ ቆይቷል። ባለፉት ሁለት አመታት አማራዉን በአማራነቱ ብቻ እያሳደደ መድረሻ ያሳጣዉ ዘረኛዉ የወያኔ አገዛዝ በቅርቡ በግፍ ታስረዉ በቁጥጥሩ ስር በሚገኙ 69 የኦሮሞ ተወላጆች ላይ ይህ ነዉ ተብሎ በሰዉ አንደበት ሲነገር አጅግ በጣም የሚዘገንን ወንጀል ፈጽሞባቸዋል።

መለስ ዜናዊ ከመሞቱ ከአንድ አመት በፊት ከፍርድ ቤት ፈቃድ ዉጭ በግፍ ሰብስቦ ያሰራቸዉና ፍርድ ቤት ሳይቀርቡና ለምን እንደታሰሩ እንኳን ሳያዉቁ ለሁለት አመታት እስር ቤት ዉስጥ የከረሙት 69 የኦሮሞ ተወላጆች ባለፈዉ ሳምንት እስር ቤት ዉስጥ እንዳሉ እጅግ በጣም የሚዘገንን ወንጀል ተፈጽሞባቸዋል። ባለፈዉ ሀምሌ 6 ቀን ፍርድ ቤት ለመቅረብ በዝግጅት ላይ እንዳሉ ቀጠሯቸዉ በአራት ወር የተራዘመባቸዉ ስልሳ ዘጠኙ የኦሮሞ ተወላጆች የቀጠሮዉን መራዘም በመቃወም አቤቱታቸዉን ለጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ ጽ/ቤት ለማቅረብ ሲሞክሩ የማረሚያ ቤቱ አስተዳዳሪዎች እንዴት እንዲህ ይታሰባል በሚል በቂም በቀል በመነሳት እስረኞቹን በቡድን በቡድን በመከፋፈልና እጅና እግራቸዉን በማሰር ከፍተኛ ድብደባ መፈጸማቸዉን ከሆስፒታል ምንጮች የተገኘዉ መረጃ ያመለክታል። በዕለቱ ድብደባ ከፍተኛ የአካል ጉዳት ከደረሰባቸዉ እስረኞች ዉስጥ ስምንቱ በድብደባ ብዛት እራሳቸዉን በመሳታቸዉ ወደ ሆስፒታል ተወስደዋል። ስልሳ ዘጠኙ አስረኞች በሶስት ቡድን ተከፍለዉ ድብደባዉ የተፈጸመባቸዉን ክፍሎች በአይናቸዉ ከተመለከቱ ሰዎች በተገኘዉ መረጃ መሰረት እስረኞቹ የተደበደቡባቸዉ ክፍሎች በደም በመጨቅየታቸዉ አርብ ቀኑን ሙሉ በውሀ ሲታጠቡ አንደነበር ለማወቅ ተችሏል።

ይህ ወያኔ ቀድሞዉኑም ቢሆን ያለ አግባብ ባሰራቸዉ ንጹህ የኦሮሞ ተወላጆች ላይ የፈጸመዉ ወንጀል በኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ ላይ በየቀኑ የሚፈጽመዉ በደልና ወንጀል አካል በመሆኑ ግንቦት ሰባት የፍትህ የነጻነትና የዲሞክራሲ ንቅናቄ እያንዳንዱ ኢትዮጵያዊ የህንን ዘግናኝ ወንጀል በራሱ ላይ እንደተፈጸመ አገራዊ ወንጀል በመቁጠር ከወያኔና ከዘረኛ ስርዐቱ ለመገላገል የሚያደርገዉን ትግል በያለበት እንዲያፋፍም ወገናዊ ጥሪዉን ያስተላልፋል። ኦሮሞዉ ሲጠቃ አማራዉ ካልደረሰለት አማራዉ ሲረገጥ ሶማሌዉ ፤ አፋሩ፤ ሲዳማዉና ወላይታዉ ወዘተ ካልደረሱለት ከፋፋዩ የወያኔ ስርዐት እያንዳንዳችንን ተራ በተራ ማሰቃየቱንና መርገጡን መቀጠሉ የማይቀር ነዉ። ስለዚህ ከወያኔ ጋር በምናደርገዉ የሞት የሽረት ትግል የኛ ኃይል አንድነት የወያኔ ኃይል ደግሞ መነጣጠላችን መሆኑን አዉቀን ይህንን ዘረኛ ስርዐት በቃ ብለን ከጀርባችን ላይ አሽቀንጥረን ለመጣል በህብረት እንነሳ።

History 101: Fiction and Facts on Oromos of Ethiopia

(A guide for foreign journalists on Oromos and Ethiopian history)

(ADAMA, Ethiopia) – Recently, the Qatar-based media al Jazeera has published several articles concerning the Oromo people of Ethiopia. It is the first international media outlet to extensively report on our people and it should be praised for bringing our cause to the world stage.

One of the benefits of this exposure is it forces Ethiopian authorities to address human rights abuses in the country and to let them know that the world is watching. Oromos and other Ethiopians have been struggling for equal rights and democracy for decades. While it is important to report about Oromo people’ background and historical perspectives, it is however vital that we report accurate information. Instead of benefiting us, reporting inaccurate or biased information can actually harm our struggle for democracy. Instead of creating national consensus and peace, it can instigate bitterness and anger.

One of the reasons al Jazeera reported inaccurate information about Oromo history is because it depended on one-sided sources, especially from members or supporters of Oromo groups outside of Ethiopia (diaspora OLF, OFDM etc). But nobody can blame al Jazeera media because most people inside Ethiopia would be too scared to speak or contribute. The only option al Jazeera or any foreign media has is to use diaspora/refugee/external sources outside Ethiopia. This is a dilemma all foreign media outlets face while reporting about third-world countries like Ethiopia.

For educational purposes, some corrections are provided below to fix inaccuracies reported on al Jazeera media regarding Oromo history and our struggle for democracy. The corrections below are supported by non-political scholars, but they might be rejected by biased politicians (both from ruling party and from opposition party) for the obvious reasons. However, they are based on historical textbooks, European authors and scholarly accounts.

Fiction #1:

“Between 1868 and 1900, half of all Oromo were killed, around 5 million people”

Fact #1:

This is one of the most repeated inaccuracies, usually told by Secessionist Oromos, radical ethno-nationalist politicians outside the country or pro-OLF history revisionist websites like gadaa.com et al. However, the undisputed fact is that even the total Ethiopian population (the sum of dozens of ethnic groups) was much less than 5 million in the late 1800s, let alone one ethnic group being 10 million. So claiming that 5 million ethnic Oromos were killed by Emperor Menelik’s forces does not add up. The truth is several thousand Oromos were in fact killed during battles of that era. It was not a “genocide” as some politicians claim but it was a massacre of the ill equipped southern forces defeated by the Shewan military of Emperor Menelik which had more European weapons. Throughout those decades, the truth is more Oromos were killed by other Oromos than by non-Oromos because competing Oromo Clans often traded for weapons to have an upper hand against their local competitors, who were often their fellow Oromo and Sidama neighbors. And it was not the first lop sided victory of that era in Africa because various communities from all corners of Ethiopia had attacked one another during the “resource battles” and whichever group had more modern weapons had the upper hand. To summarize, Professor Mengistu Paulos of Jimma University said it best when describing right-wing Oromo liberation philosophy:

“Most fictional accounts of ‘Oromo history’ blindly accepted as facts by some misled people are manufactured by former politicians turned Pseudo-historians like OLF writer Asafa Jalata, who is renowned for abuse of paraphrasing, often with out-of-context citations. For example, while quoting the 19th century Russian Alexander Bulatovich (who provided an ‘educated guess’ of annihilation of almost half Ethiopian population by disease, famine and war, including internal conflict between Oromo clans and with Abyssinians), the OLF-writer Asafa Jalata infamously claimed half Oromo population was killed by ‘evil’ Amharas. This was purposely done by Mr. Jalata to create a foundation for ethnic hatred between Oromos and Amharas. Ironically, even Mr. Bulatovich himself never had the capacity nor the legitimacy to do a reliable census, as he spent just a couple of months walking around Oromia and hunting elephants in 1890s.”

Fiction #2:

“…. largely Muslim Oromo people”

Fact #2:

This is a phrase seen in some media outlets but not most. Oromo people have never been a predominantly muslim people. In fact, both Christianity and Islam is not our ancestral religion because we have practiced an indigenous traditional religion for centuries before. Gradually, Islam and Christianity were both adopted (during Oromo migrations) by us and imposed (during conquest of our lands by Abyssinian/Christians & Somalis/Islam) on us thru out history. Even today, both the two major religions have equal representation among Oromos. The latest official 2007 census showed that around 48% of Oromos practice Christianity (Both Orthodox & Protestant) while around 47% of Oromos practice Islam. Yet, word on the ground is that the Islam population might soon surpass Christianity among Oromos in the future because Orthodox Christianity is decreasing inside Oromia.

Fiction #3

“Abyssinians labelled Oromos the derogatory word ‘Galla’”

Fact #3:

For many decades, this false statement has been used by Oromo separatists to create emotional resentment among Oromos against Semitic Abyssinians (Amharas, Tigrayans and Gurages). The fact is the derogatory word “Galla” was first used by Arab and muslim Somalis to describe Oromos as “gal” meaning “outsiders” and “Pagans.” Muslims used this label during Oromo migration because Oromo people had their own religion which the Muslims believed was paganism. Nonetheless, this derogatory word was gradually adopted and used by other Ethiopians.

Fiction #4:

“Oromos were colonized by Emperor Menelik”

Fact: #4

Another popular claim made by secessionist Oromo politicians (and usually repeated by foreign journalists) is the fiction that Oromo people (as a whole ethnic group) were colonized by another ethnic group. Usually, the slogan goes “Abyssinians colonized Oromos” etc. This claim is popular among the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) organization and consequently among some Diaspora Oromo nationalists living in America and Europe. While a different version or a re-arrangement of the wording might still be true…in general, the Oromo nation as a whole was never colonized by another Ethiopian ethnic group. To start with, even a united one Oromo nation did not exist at those times. All non-political historical textbooks show the existence of battles between multi-ethnic BUT monolingual communities for many centuries through out Ethiopia. Even in northern Ethiopia (traditional “Abyssinia”) Oromos have migrated and mixed so much with Tigrayans, Amharas, Afars etc for centuries that the “Abyssinia” state itself was never a one-ethnic state. In fact, even around the 1700s, Rayya Oromos and Yejju Wallo Oromos conquered and dominated a portion of Amharas and Tigrayans; and thus made Afan Oromo the official language of Abyssinia for that brief period. Meaning: clans and ethnic groups have mixed up in Ethiopia for over a millennium but the dominant ethnic group always imposed its language since it was convenient. This linguistic domination however was not always as exploitive and as vilified as it is today; because many of the ethnic groups living along trade centers and trade routes often spoke the languages of other ethnic groups already, because there was financial or commercial incentive to do so. This is the background of the region. Therefore, when it comes to the Emperor Menelik era, all historians have argued that it is more factual to say a predominantly Amharic language speaking community gradually conquered a predominantly Afan Oromo language speaking community in the 1800s. So this does not mean an Oromo ethnic group was conquered by an Amhara ethnic group. In fact, just like Amharas of the north were divided,Oromos were also divided and in conflict among themselves. The obvious evidence for this comes from the fact that the Amhara Emperor Menelik was imprisoned by other Amhara regional kings when he was younger. And when he was freed, Oromo clans were also in fierce battles amongst each other, so much so that the Tullama Oromo, Limmu and Macha Oromos created an alliance with the Shewan Amharas of Menelik, leading to the infamous battles of 1880s that led to this said alliance easily crushing the non-allied Oromos in various bloody wars. In short, Oromos as a one whole were never colonized by exclusively non-Oromos. In fact, the original founders of the OLF organization themselves never believed it so they did not emphasize the word “colonization” in the beginning. But in the mid-1970s, OLF leaders needed to mobilize Oromos against Emperor Haile Selassie (who was half Oromo himself) and to justify the call for “Oromia independence” from “colonial Ethiopia.” Therefore OLF had to create a bad cop-good cop scenario for their convenience and simplified history for their people to create national resentment. This helped OLF to portray Oromos as suddenly being colonized by this foreign ethnic group (Amhara) that we (Oromos) have never came in contact with before. This is common tactic used by national liberation movements around the world. The truth that most Ethiopians know is that Shewa based Oromos and Amharas (ethnically mixed Ethiopians) were the main creators of modern Ethiopia. In his book “Who are the Shoans,” the historian and anthropologist, Dr. Gerry Salole once summarized that: “In terms of descent, the group that became politically dominant in Shewa (and subsequently in Ethiopia) was a mixture of Amhara and Oromo.”

In Conclusion, the above are 4 of the main issues that create confusion for foreign journalists who report on Oromo people and Oromo politics in Ethiopia. While it is vital that al Jazeera and other media outlets cover the current suffering of Oromos and other Ethiopians, it is necessary to report responsibly. Otherwise, creating confusion and resentment between the younger Ethiopian population causes more problems than solutions. In reality, not just Oromos, but all Ethiopians have suffered under several governments and the only way they can achieve freedom and lasting democracy is when united, not when divided by tribes or not when being polarized by historical lies presented as truth. It is important that foreign media outlets make corrections or report accurate information to avoid inflammatory statements that are destructive and counter productive against Oromos and all Ethiopian people’ ongoing struggle for democracy, development and justice.

The Gravest Fears that Ethiopians Must Defeat Once and For All

That is exactly what we are currently witnessing in our country after eight- years of fear and silence. Yes, the fear and silence imposed by the late mastermind of the ruling party, Ato Meles Zenawi was challenged by Semayawi Party on June 2nd, 2013. And the very peaceful and legitimate demonstrations in Gonder and Dessie organized by Andint (UDJ) on July 7th, 2013 are very clear evidences of how our real and legitimate fear is paving the way for “hope, relief and gratitude.” Yes, it is beyond any doubt that the ongoing preparations by various opposition political forces such as UDJ, Semayawi, Medrek and all other genuinely concerned groups is to use the fear we fear as a great opportunity to prevent the gravely dangerous fear, the fear of getting the country’s survival at risk, and the fear of not continuing as a people who have lived together for thousands of years. Yes, we presently are witnessing the very encouraging movement of reawakening; the movement that is determined to deal with the fear we fear in an appropriate manner, not running away from the fear we fear. Are we late compared to the huge and serious problem that hit us hard for the last two decades? Yes, we have to admit that we are late. Was and is our pace of moving forward unacceptably slow? Absolutely yes! Now, the question is:  Have we learnt a great deal of lesson and decisively ready to move forward and make a difference, or  step back and continue suffering from the fear/terror imposed by the ruling circle? I hope the reawakening we are witnessing will move forward irreversibly until the political system we genuinely aspire is met!!

My intention is not either to talk about the fear that is part and parcel of our nature, or the fear we normally have to deal with any given situation we live in. The very purpose of this piece of writing of mine is to reflect the view that the fear we fear as part of our nature or otherwise should serve our legitimate cause; to fight the fear that is caused by a bunch of ruling elites who use fear as their political weapon.   It is this kind of fear that should be fought and defeated before it totally and dangerously enslaves us. There is no doubt that one of the most notorious means used by all dictatorial regimes is nothing, but reign of fear and terror.

That is exactly what the ruling circle of TPLF/EPRDF draws its notorious fear/terror card whenever it faces the challenge from the people who have come across the devastating experience for the last two decades. It goes without saying that the tyrannical ruling elites have told and keep telling the people that they (mindless ruling elites) have a well-crafted political agenda as well as plan to perpetuate their power by making the state machine much more brutal and deadly. That should be the gravest fear we really have to deal with.

Yes, there is no doubt that we as human beings are fearful of being intimidated, harassed, arrested/detained, tortured, convicted of  being anti-constitution and being punished based on fake and dramatized witnesses, sentenced to life-time/prolonged imprisonment, and being killed/executed because of our demand for political freedom, rule of law, human dignity and socio-economic justice. Yes, we as human beings are fearful of being starved, getting ill and no help, facing man-made or natural disaster, being victims of ignorance. What we have to fear most is not of symptoms; but the root cause of all the untold sufferings we are experiencing, the dirty and deadly political game.

Yes, the people of Ethiopia are fearful of that a bunch of politicians who want to stay in power and satisfy their wildly voracious self-interests at the very expense of their (people’s) lives. The seriousness of the fear and damage the ruling party (TPLF/EPRDF) did to Ethiopia as a country and her people for the last two decades is beyond the magnitude of acceptability.

Let us reiterate some of the gravest fears we have gone through and we continue going through:

• The territorial integrity of the country has been and is being severely compromised. Think about what happened to her (Ethiopian) sea outlet, Asab. Adding salt to the severe injury , the Ethiopian people were both deceived and forced to pay a huge sacrifice (material, finance and lives) for the war that ended up with not only nothing but giving away part of their  territory (Badme and other large tract of lands ) . What was more disturbing was when the Ethiopian people were badly fooled, and told to get to the streets of Addis and dance with those ruling elites who had and still have no any sense of honesty.

• I am sure all concerned Ethiopians remember what the late Ato Melses Zenawi responded to the question of the territorial integrity of our country bordering the Sudan. It was extremely outrageous to see and hear the late ato Meles Zenawi presenting himself as a negotiator of the Sudanese government to the extent of saying   that the Ethiopian people cannot claim the wide and long tract of land that belonged to the Sudanese. He defended the Sudanese government by referring the arbitrary boarder line proposed by a military officer (general) of the colonial power, the Great Britain.

• We had to be extremely fearful when the late Ato Meles Zenawi responded to the question posed by the then MP of the opposition party about the number of Ethiopian daughters and sons (soldiers) killed in Somalia in the 2006 incursion. He unleashed his arrogance and contempt to the parliament by saying that he did not believe that he is obliged to be answerable to these kinds of questions from any MP. I do not think it would be a mere judgment to say that what Ato Meles wanted to tell us was that soldiers perished in Somalia belonged to his party , not to the people of Ethiopia. Was that not extremely scary and shocking, not simply fearful?

• What happened to the Agnuwak ethnic group in the Gambella region with the full knowledge and order of the ruling party (led by Ato Meles) was a horrible politically motivated genocide. What was and is extremely disturbing to witness the ruling party’s effort to justify the genocide it committed. It is this and many other similar devastating political games we have to fear and decisively fight against.

• How many innocent Oromos have become victims of a deadly political agenda and practice under the pretext of supporting the OLF? How many innocent Ethiopian Somalis have suffered and continue suffering under the pretext of supporting ONLF? How many innocent Ethiopians from various ethnic groups have gone through and continue going through an incredible level of misery for the simple reason they have tried to exercise their basic political freedom and human dignity? It is all these and so many other extremely fearful situations we need to deal with seriously.

• How many innocent citizens who tried to express their concerns about getting their votes stolen by the ruling party in the 2005 election had been intimidated, harassed, and beaten up/tortured, jailed and killed? The people have been forced to live under a state-terror that was declared by the late Ato Meles Zenawi on the same day of the election. It is this kind of political madness that made the people to live under horrible fear for the last eight years. And that is why the current reawakening movements by genuinely concerned opposition political parties and human rights groups are signs of “hope, relief and gratitude” that emanated from a reasonable fear.

• Think about the untold sufferings of thousands of innocent Ethiopians including journalists, opposition political party members and supporters, people who represent the people who cried out for religious freedom (particularly Muslim Ethiopians) in the hands of the suppressing machines of the ruling party. I do not know what else we have to fear if all these and other evil-driven political dramas do not make us worried and fearful.

• Imagine how the inner ruling elites of TPLF/EPRDF who declare day and night that they are determined to continue the legacy of their late “great leader”,Ato Meles Zenawi do keep making a very dangerous political  madness. They wrote and made a very stupid film/drama of “Jihadi Harakat” on those members of the committee whose cases have been said to be court cases. Now, they are working hard to come up with another senseless and idiotic drama on the peaceful demand for religious freedom by Ethiopian Muslims that has already entered its second year. Is this not a very dangerous fear that has to be defeated with a well-coordinated and determined struggle? I strongly believe it has to be defeated!

• Those brain- children of the late Ato Meles Zenawi have shown their determination of carrying on his legacy by forcing (horrible deportation) thousands of innocent Ethiopians from regions they lived for so many years as responsible citizens. What is deeply troubling about this very ugly and criminal step is evicting Ethiopians from their own country based on the language either they speak or they used to speak. Is this not a tragedy to the people who are truly pride of their country? Is this not a very dreadful fear that has to be dealt with a very powerful popular protest and civil disobediences? Absolutely it has to be tackled and defeated before it goes out of control!

• The “great legacy” of the dirty political drama has now opened a new campaign against the very encouraging movement of reawakening since June 2nd 2013. Of course, the methods being applied in this nasty campaign are neither surprising nor unusual. The only thing that sounds different is the absence of the most notorious mastermind of those ugly games, and consequently the serious state of desperation of the ruling circle. It must be underlined that this state of madness of the ruling party is the most dangerous fear that we need to encounter and defeate it before it is too late.

• The tyrannical ruling circle tries hard to fool the people with their cheap propaganda of “developmental state/government” as if their self- enrichment through their corrupt political game is good for the people whose life styles are becoming unbearably miserable day-out and day-in. Carne Ross ( The Leaderless Revolution –How Ordinary People Will Take Power and Change Politics in the 21st century,2011)  is absolutely right when he argues, “The issue of political rights segues into whether economic rights have any vitality in Africa South of the Sahara. The fundamental question raised, however, is whether the question of human rights is even a consideration in Africa. The answer is exceedingly disturbing.”

Let me sum up my point of view by saying that unless we move forward with a  well- thought, well- planned, well-coordinated,  and firm political action ; there is no doubt that we will be defeated by the fear we fear and there is a danger to be enslaved by the evil- driven political agenda of the ruling party. I am reasonably optimistic that we will fight and defeat the gravest fear before it is too late!

Wondimu also showed and distributed to the members of the House who attended his presentation, what he called a “copy of the cheque of the money” she lodged.

Celebrity Net Worth site said Meles Zenawi got a net worth of $3 billion. What a shame! That is wrong guys. Absolutely wrong. I have got a copy of a cheque signed by Semhal Meles Zenawi, the daughter of Meles Zenawi himself, depositing in one of the New York banks $5 billion. I have got and I will give you the copy. Don’t ask me how it came into our possession but that is a fact.

Wondimu further said ”I think, Celebrity Net Worth, got it entirely all wrong. If that was the case, how come, a check in the name of his elder daughter Semhal Meles Zenawi, for US5 billion was deposited into a bank in New York? We will leave the investigation to Department of Fraud and Money Laundering Investigation of the United States”.

ብርበራው ቀኑን ሙሉ እንደሚደረግ ታውቋል

በደቡብ ወሎ ዞን በሀይቅ ከተማ የሚገኙ የአንድነት ፓርቲ አመራሮችና አባላት ቤት ላይ ዛሬ ከማለዳው 12 ሰዓት ጀምሮ ብርበራ እንደተጀመረ የዞኑ የአንድነት ፓርቲ አመራሮች ለፍኖተ ነፃነት አስታወቁ፡፡

የአንድነት ፓርቲ የወረባቡ ወረዳ ሰብሳቢ አቶ እድሪስ ሰኢድ ለፍኖተ ነፃነት እንዳስታወቁት ዛሬ ከማለዳው 12 ሰዓት ጀምሮ “የጦር መሳሪያ ሰውራችኋል” በሚል ፖሊሶችና ሚኒሻዎች በሀይቅ ከተማ ባሉ ከ16 በላይ በሚሆኑ የአንድነት ፓርቲ አመራሮችና አባላት መኖሪያ ቤት ውስጥ ብርበራ አካሂደዋል፡፡ ብርበራው ከተካሄደባቸው አመራሮች መሀከል አንዱ የሆኑት የወረዳው የአንድነት ፓርቲ የፋይናንስ ኃላፊ አቶ አራጌ ሑሴን ለሪፖርተራችን እንደገለፁት 5 ፖሊሶችና 1 ሚሊሻ ከማለዳው 12 ሰዓት ጀምረው መኖሪያ ቤታቸውን ፈትሸዋል፡፡ አቶ አራጌ ሁሴን አክለውም “እኔ ሰላማዊ ሰው ነኝ ምንም አታገኙም አልኳቸው፤እንዳልኩትም 2 ሰዓት የፈጀ ብርበራ አድርገውም አንዳች ሳያገኙ ወጥተዋል” በማለት ገልፀዋል፡፡

ህዝብን ለማስፈራራት በታቀደ መለኩ እንደተለመደው የወያኔ ባለስልጣናት በአዲስ ዘመን ጋዜጣ ላይ እጅግ ስላሰጋቸው የሰማያዊ ፓርቲ እንቅስቃሴ የሚከተለውን አስፍረዋል፣

የሰማያዊው ፓርቲ ጥቁር ተግባራትሰማያዊ ፓርቲ በጠራው ሕዝባዊ ሰልፍ ላይ ያቀረባቸው ጥያቄዎች የተሰላፊዎች ጥንቅርና መሰረታዊ ዓላማ በእጅጉ አነጋጋሪ ለሆኑ ጉዳዮች መነሻና መንደርደሪያ ሆነውኛል።ሰማያዊ ፓርቲ ከአንድነት ፓርቲ ባለመስማማትና በልዩነት ራሳቸውን ያገለሉ፣ መርህ ይከበር በሚል ተሰባስበው የነበሩ ግለሰቦች የመሰረቱት ፓርቲ ነው፡፡ ወደ ኋላ ስንመለስም በ1997 ዓ.ም ቅንጅትን ከመሰረቱትና የከሸፈውን አመጽ በማስተባበርና በመምራት ከፊትና ከኋላ የነበሩ፤ ዛሬ ደግሞ የቀድሞውን ማንነታቸውን ሳይለቁ በአዲስ መልክና በአዲስ ኮፍያ ለመንቀሳቀስ እየሞከሩ ያሉ ናቸው፡፡አንድ ተቃዋሚ የፖለቲካ ፓርቲ ሕገ መንግስቱ በሰጠው መብት በሰላምና በሕጋዊ መንገድ ሕጉንና ስርዓቱን አሟልቶ መንቀሳቀስ ይጠበቅበታል፡፡ ሰማያዊም ፓርቲ ሆነ ሌሎቹ ተቃዋሚ ፓርቲዎች በውጭ ከሚገኘው ጽንፈኛና አክራሪ ኃይል ጋር በመቀናጀት በአረቡ ዓለም የታየውን አብዮት ወደ ኢትዮጵያ እናመጣለን በሚል ለረዥም ጊዜያት ውስጥ ውስጡን ሲንቀሳቀሱ ቆይተዋል፡፡ ሆኖም እውነቱን የተረዳው ሕዝብ በአንድም ሆነ በሌላ መልኩ ይህንን ሊቀበላቸው አልፈቀደም፡፡ከውጭ የአሸባሪው ግንቦት ሰባት ቴሌቪዥን ጣቢያ «ኢሳት» ባለፉት አመታትም ሆነ አሁን ሰማያዊ ፓርቲ የጠራውን ሕዝባዊ ሰልፍ አይነት እንዲካሄድ በዚህም ጠንካራ ጸረ-መንግስት እንቅስቃሴና አመጽ በአዲስ አበባና በክልሎች እንዲቀጣጠል፤ሁኔታዎች ከቁጥጥር ውጭ እንዲሆኑ፤ ሀገሪቷ ሰላሟ ደፍርሶ ወደ ሁከት፣ ብጥብጥና ስርዓተ አልበኛ ሁኔታ እንድታመራ፤ ያልፈነቀሉት ድንጋይ ያልጫሩትና ለማቀጣጠል ያለኮሱት እሳት የለም፡፡ አሁንም ሕዝቡ የተረጋጋ ሰላማዊ ሕይወቱን፣ የሀገሩን ሰላምና ደህንነት አጥብቆ የሚፈልግ በመሆኑ ይኸው እኩይ ሙከራቸው ሳይሳካ ቀርቷል፡፡ካለፈው አመት ጀምሮ በአዲስ አበባ የሚገኙ ተቃዋሚዎች በርቀት ካለው ጽንፈኛው አክራሪ ሀይል ጋር በውስጣዊ ትስስር በመቀናጀት፤ አጀንዳ በመጋራት ሌላው የሴራ መንገድ አላዋጣቸው ሲል፤የሙስሊም ወንድሞቻችንን ትግል እንደግፋለን፤ ከጎናቸው እንሰለፋለን፤ መንግስት በሙስሊሞች ጉዳይ ጣልቃ ገብቷል፣ የታሰሩት ይፈቱ፣ ወዘተ የሚሉ መፈክሮችን በአገር ውስጥ ደጋፊዎቻቸው በጋዜጦች በዌብ ሳይቶች (በተለይም በአረቡ ዓለም መገናኛ ብዙሀንና ድረ ገጾች) በመጠቀም የፖለቲካ ድጋፋቸውን ለማስፋት በእጅጉ ደክመዋል፡፡አሁንም ገፍተውበታል፡፡በአሜሪካና በሌሎች አገሮች የሚገኙ የጽንፈኛው ግንቦት ሰባት አክራሪ ቡድን አባላትና ደጋፊዎች በጅምላው የሙስሊሙን ጥያቄ እንደግፋለን በሚል ስብሰባ አካሂደዋል፣ ሰልፍ ጠርተዋል፡፡ ከሂጅራ ፋውንዴሽን ጋር በመተባበር የገንዘብ እርዳታ አሰባስበዋል፡፡ ይህንን ሁሉ ሸብ ረብ ሲያካሂዱ በኢትዮጵያ የአክራሪ እስልምና አደጋ መሰረት እየጣለና የሸረሪት ድሩን እያደራ መሆኑን እያወቁም ቢሆን ይክዳሉ፡፡እነሱ የሚፈልጉት ምንም ሆነ ምን ከጎናቸው ተሰልፎ ኢሕአዴግን የሚጥል ሀይል ማበራከት በሚለው የጨለማ አስተሳሰብ የተቃኘ ነው፡፡ ስለዚህም ጥቂት አክራሪ ሙስሊሞች በየሳምንቱ የዓርብ ጁምአ ጸሎት፤ለስግደት በወጣው ሕዝበ ሙስሊም መካከል መፈክር በማሰማትና በማስተጋባት ሲያካሂዱት የነበረውን እንቅስቃሴ ተቃዋሚው ሀይል አይኑን ጨፍኖ ሕጋዊ ጥያቄ ነው በማለት ድጋፉን እየሰጠ ይገኛል፡፡ ይህንኑ አንድነት፣ መድረክና ሰማያዊ ፓርቲ በአይዞአችሁ ባይነት እያጋፈሩና ስፖንሰር እያደረጉት ይገኛሉ፡፡ ጉዳዩ ኢሕአዴግን የመደገፍ ወይንም ያለመደገፍ ጉዳይ ሳይሆን የአክራሪ ሙስሊሞች እንቅስቃሴ በኢትዮጵያ መከሰት የኢትዮጵያ ሀገራዊ ሕልውናና የደህንነት ጉዳይ መሆኑን ከጥላቻ ወጥቶ ማስተዋል ያልቻለ ተቃዋሚ ይሏል ይህ ነው።መንግስትና የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ የችግሩን መሰረታዊነትና አሳሳቢነት በውል የተረዳው በመሆኑ ይህንን አደጋ ለመቅረፍ በጋራ እየሰሩ ይገኛሉ፣ ውጤታማም ሆነዋል፡፡ ምንም እንኳ ሰማያዊ ፓርቲ ያካሄደው ሕዝባዊ ሰልፍ ለሌሎች ጸረ ሰላም ኃይሎች አጀንዳ ማራመጃነትና መጠቀሚያነት ያገለገለ ቢሆንም። ሁከትና ብጥብጥ ሳይነሳ፤ በትዕግስት ማስጨረሱ የመንግስትን ብስለት በገሀድ ያረጋግጣል፡፡ይህንን እንደ መልካም አጋጣሚ የወሰደው ጽንፈኛ ተቃዋሚ በድርጊቱ በመግፋት በክልሎችም ሰልፉን እያስተባበረ ይገኛል፡፡ መድረክ በመቀሌ ሰልፍ ለማድረግ ተከለከልኩ ሲል አንድነት ደግሞ ሁለት ወር የሚዘልቅ ሰልፍ በየክልሉ ለማድረግ ፕሮግራም አውጥቷል፡፡ የግብፆች እቅድ፤በአገር ውስጥ ተቃዋሚ በመጠቀምና በገንዘብ በመርዳት መንግስትን ማዳከም፤መወጠር የሚለው ስትራቴጂያቸው በገሀድ ነፍስ ሲዘራ እያየን ነው ማለት ነው፡፡ በመሰረቱ ሀገር በስራ እንጂ በሰልፍና በጩኸት አትለወጥም፣ አታድግምም፡፡ የውጭ ሀይሎች ተላላኪና መሳሪያ መሆን፤ የሀገርን ልማትና እድገት ለማጨናገፍ በፖለቲካ ሽፋን መንቀሳቀስ በሀገር ላይ የሚፈጸም ከባድ ወንጀል ነው፡፡ በሰማያዊው ፓርቲ ሰልፍ ላይ የታየው የሌሎች ተቃዋሚ ፓርቲዎች መሪዎችና አባላት ብቻ ሳይሆኑ በአብዛኛው ለአክራሪዎች ወግኖ የቆመው ኃይል ነው፡፡ይህም ሰማያዊው ፓርቲ አስቀድሞ ውስጥ ውስጡን የማስተባበር ስራ መስራቱን በገሀድ ያረጋግጣል፡፡ መካከለኛ እድሜ ላይ ያሉና አዛውንቶች ጭርሱንም በሰልፍ ላይ የሉም ማለት ይቻላል፡፡የሰልፈኛው ቁጥር አናሳ ከመሆኑ አንጻር ያን ያህልም ግምት የሚሰጠው እንዳልሆነ በግልጽ የሚታወቅ ቢሆንም፣ «ለራስ ሲቆርሱ አያሳንሱ» ዓይነት ተረት ሆነና 100 ሺ ሰው ሰልፍ ወጥቷል ሲሉ የሰማያዊ ፓርቲ ኃላፊ ከእውነታው የተጣላ መግለጫ ለተለያዩ ሚዲያዎች ሰጡ፡፡ ኢትዮ ምሕዳር ጋዜጣም ይህንኑ በማስተጋባት ይሁን በራሱ ስሜት ተነሳስቶ እንደሆነ አይታወቅም በመጀመሪያ ገጹ ላይ «100 ሺ ሰዎች ሰልፍ ወጡ» ሲል ግነቱን በመድገም ዘገባ አቅርቧል፡፡ መልእክቱ አያሻማም፣ ለቀጣዩ ሰልፍ ሰዎች እንዲሰናዱ በኋላም ብዙ መቶ ሺዎች ወጡ ለማለት እንዲመች የተዘጋጀ የቅድመ ፕሮፖጋንዳ ስራ ወይም የቅስቀሳ ማስታወቂያ መሆኑ ነው፡፡ሌሎቹም የውስጥና የውጭ ሚዲያዎች ከ1997 በኋላ የነበረው ፍርሃት ተሰበረ በሚል በመቶ ሺዎች ሰልፍ ወጡ፤ መንግስት በሶስት ወራት ለቀረቡለት ጥያቄዎች መልስ ካልሰጠ ተቃውሞውና ሰልፉ ተጠናክሮ ይቀጥላል፤ ተቃዋሚውም የበለጡ የተቃውሞ ሰልፎችን ለማድረግ እቅድ እያወጣ ነው፣ ተባብሮ እየሰራ ነው የሚሉ ዘገባዎችንም አንብበናል፡፡ለዚሁም ተግባራዊነት አሜሪካና አውሮፓ ከሚገኙ አክራሪ ተቃዋሚ ሀይሎች ገንዘብ የማሰባሰብ ስራ እየተካሄደና ከወዲሁም ለመንቀሳቀስና ለማስተባበሪያ የሚሆን ገንዘብ በተለያዩ ሽፋኖች ወደ ሀገር ውስጥ እየገባ መሆኑን አንዳንድ መረጃዎች ያሳያሉ፡፡ በቀጣይም መሰል የተቃውሞ ሰልፎችንና የአደባባይ ስብሰባዎችን ለማደራጀት እንደሚንቀሳቀሱ እየገለጹ ይገኛሉ።የአረቡ ዓለም ዓይነት አብዮት በመፍጠር በሁከትና በትርምስ መንግስትን በኃይል ለመጣል ይቻላል ብለውም ዕምነት ይዘዋል። ይህ ግን ኢ-ሕገመንግሥ ታዊና ሕገወጥ ከመሆኑም በላይ የሃገራችን ነባራዊ ሁኔታ ሊያስተናግደው የማይችል ከንቱ ምኞት ከመሆን የዘለለ አይሆንም።፡፡ እነሱ እንዳሰቡት ሕብረተሰቡ የስውር ሴራቸውና የአመጻቸው ተባባሪ ይሆናል ተብሎም ጭራሽ አይታሰብም። በዚህ ዓይነቱ ድርጊት ጀርባ በቀጥታና በተዘዋዋሪ የእነማን እጅ አለ? የነማንን ጥቅም ለማስከበርና ዓላማ ለማሳካት ነው ይህ ሁሉ እየታሰበ ያለው? ለዚህ ዓላማ መሳካት ሲባልስ በተለያየ መንገድ ከውጭ የሚገባ ስውር ድጋፍ የለም ወይ? የተለያዩ ክፍተቶች እንዲፈጠሩ በማድረግ የራሳቸውን ጥቅም ለማስከበር የሚራወጡ የተለያዩ የውጭና የውስጥ ኃይሎች የሉም ወይ? ወዘተ የሚሉትን ጥያቄዎች አንስቶ በሚገባ መፈተሽ ተገቢ ይሆናል። የመንግሥትን ጥብቅ ክትትልና ቁጥጥር በመፍራት ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ባሉ በመንግስትም ሆነ በግል የገንዘብ ተቋማት በኩል ግዙፍ ገንዘብ በቀጥታ አይልኩም፡፡ ሽብርተኞች በውጭው ዓለም እንደሚያደርጉት ሁሉ እነዚህም ጨዋታውን የሚያካሂዱትና ገንዘብ የሚያስገቡት ሕጋዊ ባልሆኑ የተለያዩ ስውር መንገዶች ነው፡፡ይህ ሁሉ ደፋ ቀና በእርግጥ በዚህች አገር የተሻለ ለውጥ ለማምጣት ሳይሆን የሀገሪቷን ሰላም በማደፍረስ ወደ ሁካታና ትርምስ ማዕከልነት ለመለወጥ በዚህም ጥፋትና ውድመት መካከል በሚፈጠር የመርፌ ቀዳዳ በሚያህል ክፍተት ተሽሎክሉኮ በሕገወጥነትና በኃይል ሥልጣን መጨበጥ ብቻ ነው፡፡ ይህ የቀን ቅዥታቸው ግን በምንም መንገድ ዳር የሚደርስ አይሆንም፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ ለዚህ የኢትዮጵያ ጠላቶች ከጀርባ ሆነው በፋይናንስ በመርዳት ለሚያደርጉት ርብርብ ውስብስቡን ገጽታቸውን ስለሚረዳው ፈጽሞ አይንበረከክም፡፡የታላቁን ሕዳሴ ግድብ ግንባታና ሌሎችን የተጀመሩ ፈጣን የልማት እንቅስቃሴዎችን ለመግታት የሚራወጡት በተቃዋሚነት ስም ያሉ ሰማያዊ ፓርቲን የመሳሰሉና ሌሎች የሃይማኖትና የፖለቲካ ጽንፈኞች እንቅስቃሴ በአንዳንድ የውጭ ሀይሎች ስለላና መረጃ እንዲሁም ቀጥተኛ የፋይናንስ ድጋፍ ሊታገዙ እንደሚችሉ መገመት ከእውነታው የራቀ አይሆንም። ይህን ለማለት የሚያስደፍረውም በአቋም ደረጃ እያራመዱት ያለውና በተግባርም እንተረጉመዋለን የሚሉት ሁሉ ያለው ተመሳሳይነት ነው። የሰማያዊ ፓርቲ፣የአንድነትም ሆነ የመድረክ ሽር ጉድ ለሰላም፣ለዕድገት፣ለፍትሕና ለዲሞክራሲ መስፈን ሳይሆን በአቋራጭ ራሳቸውን ለሥልጣን ለማብቃት የሚያደርጉት የህልም እሩጫ ነው።ለዚህም ሕዝቡን ለማነሳሳት፣በዲሞክራሲና በሰብአዊ መብት ስም መነገድ፤የሕዝብ ስሜትን ይቀሰቅስልናል ብለው የሚያስቡትን የተዘጋና ፈጽሞ ተቀባይነት የሌለውን አጀንዳ ሁሉ ከተቀበረበት አውጥቶ የሌለ ሕይወት ለመስጠት አቧራ ማስነሳት፣ በአሸባሪነት ተጠርጥረው ጉዳያቸው በነጻ ፍርድ ቤት በመታየት ላይ ያሉ ሰዎችንና ቀደም ብሎም የፍርድ ውሳኔ የተላለፈባቸውን በተመለከተ ከፍርድ ቤት ይልቅ ራሳቸውን ፈራጅ አድርገው በመሰየም ይፈቱ ማለትና በዚህም አክራሪነትንና ጽንፈኝነትን መደገፍ ነው ስራየ ብለው የያዙት፡፡ታላቅ የሆነ ሀገራዊ ጉዳይ እያለ ያንን ለማሰናከልና ለውጭ ሀይሎች መሳሪያ በመሆን ሕዝቡን ለመከፋፈል መሮጣቸው ማንነታቸውን ይበልጥ አጋልጦታል፡፡ ማንም በዚህ የሚዘናጋና የሚታለል አይኖርም፡፡ ጥሪያቸውም ሆነ ቅስቀሳቸው ተቀባይነት የለውም፡፡ የሰማያዊ ፓርቲ፣ የአንድነትና የመድረክ ጥቁር ተግባራት ሀገሪቷን ወደ ጥፋት አቅጣጫ ለመውሰድ ያነጣጠረ እንጂ ለሕዝብ ጥቅምና ክብር ከማሰብ የመነጨ አይደለም፡፡ በዚህ ድርጊታቸው ግን የታሪክና የትውልድ ተጠያቂነትም እንደሚኖርባቸው ጠንቅቀው ሊገነዘቡት ይገባል፡፡

የዛሬ 10 ወር የሻለቃ ሃይሌ ገ/ሥላሴ ወደ ፖለቲካ የመምጣት ሁኔታን አስመልክቶ ጎልጉል የድረገጽ ጋዜጣ ሃተታ አቅርቦ ነበር፡፡ (እዚህ ላይ ይመልከቱት) ሰሞኑን አትሌቱ ወደ ፖለቲካው የመግባት ፍላጎቱንና “በምርጫ” ለመወዳደር መፈለጉ ብዙ እየተባለበት ይገኛል፡፡ ከዚህ አንጻር አሁን ላለው ሁኔታ ግንዛቤ ይሰጣል በማለት ከዚህ በፊት ያቀረብነውን ሃተታ በድጋሚ አትመነዋል፡፡

“ለኢትዮጵያ የጥምር መንግስት ያስፈልጋታል” በማለት በ1997 ምርጫ አጥብቆ ሲከራከር የነበረውና በአሁኑ ወቅት በከፍተኛ ደረጃ ኢንቨስትመንት ውስጥ የገባው ሻለቃ ሃይሌ ገብረስላሴ በኢትዮጵያ ቀደም ሲል ከነበሩት መንግስታትና ትውልዶች ይልቅ አሁን ላለው ትውልድ ከበሬታ እንዳለው በመግለጽ አስተያየቱን ሰነዘረ። የክብር ሪኮርዶቹን በሙሉ ለቀነኒሳ ያስረከበው ሃይሌ በእጁ የሚገኘውን ብቸኛ ሃብቱን (የህዝብ ክብር) እያሟጠጠ መሆኑ እየተገለጸ ነው።

ሃይሌ ይህንን የተናገረው መስከረም 12 ቀን 2004 ዓ ም ከተለያዩ አስተያየት ሰጪዎች ጋር በመንግስት ቴሌቪዥን (ኢቲቪ) አስተያየት በሰጠበት ወቅት ነበር። የቀድሞውን ስርዓትና ትውልድ “ድንጋይ ዳቦ በነበረበት፣ ፍራፍሬ ከጫካ ያለምንም ድካም ከሚሰበሰብበት” ዘመን ጋር ያወዳደረው ሃይሌ፣ “የአሁኑ ትውልድ” በማለት ያሞካሸውን ስርዓት ከተፈጥሮ ጋር ጦርነት በማካሄድ ለውጥ ማስመዝገበ መቻላቸውን አስምሮበታል።

“የባለ ራዕዩ መሪ” አቶ መለስ ገድል ለመዘከር በተዘጋጀ ቅንብር ላይ  በተደጋጋሚ አስተያየት ሲሰጥ የታየው ሃይሌ “አሁን የት ነው ያለነው?” በማለት ጠይቆ “አሜሪካ ኤምባሲ ቪዛ ለማግኘት ነው የምንጋፋው? አውሮፓ ሄደን እዛው ለመቅረት ነው…” በማለት ስደትን መርጠው ከአገራቸው የሚወጡትን ሸርድዶ አልፏል። አሁን ባለው የኢትዮጵያ ወቅታዊ ሁኔታ ለስደት የሚዳርግ ጉዳይ የለም ወደ ማለት አዝምሞ ተናግሯል። ሃይሌ ይህን ይበል እንጂ በተቃራኒው እስረኞች እንዲፈቱና የፖለቲካ እርቅ እንዲሰፍን እሰራለሁ ከሚሉት ፕሮፌሰር ይስሃቅ ጋር በሽምግልና እያገለገለ መሆኑ በአገሪቱ ውስጥ የሚታው እስርና እንግልት ከፍተኛ ደረጃ ላይ መድረሱን የሚጠቅሱ አስተያየት ሰጪዎች የሃይሌን አስተያየት “ለንብረት ዋስትና የሚከፈል የንግግር ቫት” በማለት አጣጥለውታል።

ከኤርትራ ጋር ከተደረገው በቀር በኢትዮጵያ ይህ ነው የሚባል ጦርነት እንዳልተካሔደ ኢህአዴግን የሰላም አባት አስመስሎ ሃይሌ አመልክቷል። በዚሁም ምክንያት ቀደም ሲል ለጦርነት ይውል የነበረው የአገሪቱ በጀት ሙሉ በሙሉ ወደ ልማት ዞሯል ብሏል። የኢህአዴግ ተወካይ መስሎ አስተያየት የሰጠው ሃይሌ “ይህ አሁን የታየው ለውጥ በአስርና አስራ አንድ ዓመት ውስጥ የታየ ነው። አሁን ባለው አካሄድ ከአስር ዓመት በኋላ እንደርሳለን?” ሲል የራሱን ትንቢት አስቀምጧል።

ተቆራርጦ በሚቀርበው አስተያየት እነ ፕሮፌሰር እንድሪያስን በማጀብ ሃይሌ  በመዝገበ ቃላት ላይ ኢትዮጵያን “ረሃብ” በማለት የሚተረጉማት ቃል እንደሚቀየር በልበ ሙሉነት ተናግሯል። “ከሃያ ዓመት በኋላ” አለ ሃይሌ “በመዝገበ ቃላት ላይ የኢትዮጵያ ውርስ ትርጉም ሃብታም በሚል ይቀየራል” ብሏል።

“ድሮ ትረዱን ነበር፤ እናመሰግናለን። አሁን ደግሞ እንረዳችሀዋለን እንላቸዋለን” ሲል አውሮፓና አሜሪካን የመሳሰሉ ታላላቅ አገሮች የኢትዮጵያን እጅ እንደሚናፍቁ ሃይሌ ከምኞት ባለፈ ስሜት ውስጥ ሆኖ ተናግሯል። አገሪቱን ለሃያ አንድ ዓመታት ሲመሩ የነበሩት አቶ መለስ ባልገለጹበት ሁኔታ ሃይሌ ከአስር እስከ ሃያ ዓመት ኢትዮጵያ ሃብታም አገር እንደምትሆን መናገሩ ከምን የመነጨ እንደሆነ ሊገባቸው እንዳልቻለ ብዙዎች እየገለጹ ነው።

“ሙስና ከፍተኛ ደረጃ ደርሷል” ሲል ኢህአዴግን የመከረው ሃይሌ የበታች ባለስልጣናት መንግስትን እንዳያሰድቡ መክሯል። “መንግስት ይህንን አድርጉ ላይል ይችላል” የሚለው ሃይሌ የበታች ባለስልጣኖች የሚፈጽሙት ሙስና “መንግስትን ያስወቅሰዋል” በሚል ተቆርቋሪነቱን በይፋ አስታውቋል። ዋናዎቹን የሙስና ተዋናዮች ነጻ በማውጣት የታች ባለስልጣኖችን “እያንገዋለለ” አሳጥቷቸዋል።

“… ለህሊናቸው ሲሉ እንደ መንግስት በማሰብ መስራት አለባቸው” ሲል ትዕዛዝ አዘል ምክርና ማሳሰቢያ ለበታች ባለስልጣናት ያስተላለፈው ሃይሌ የአስተያየቱ መነሻ ከኢህአዴግ ጋር የፈጠረው ዝምድና ውጤት እንደሆነ እየተነገረ ነው። አንድ አስተያየት ሰጪ “ሃይሌ ሃብቱ እየበዛ ሲሄድና የተበደረው ገንዘብ ሲጨምር ኢህአዴግን ወክሎ መናገር ጀመረ” ብለዋል።

አትሌቶችን ሰብስቦ የአቶ መለሰን ሃዘን ሳግ በያዘው ድምጽ እያለቀሰ የገለጸው ሃይሌ ነፍሳቸውን ይማረውና በአቶ መለስ አይወደድም ነበር። በህይወት እያሉም በተደጋጋሚ ያናንቁት ነበር። ሃይሌን እንደሚያደንቁት ተጠይቀው አርቲስት ቻቺን በማሞገስ ጭራሹኑ እንደማያወቁት ዘለውት አልፈውት ነበር። ኢህአዴግ በተለይም ህወሃት ለሃይሌ ቁብ እንደሌላቸው የሚያውቀው ሃይሌ ከአንድ ማስታወቂያ ሰራተኛ ልቆ በፕሮፓጋንዳ ተግባር ላይ መሰማራቱ በቅርብ ጓደኞቹና በአድናቂዎቹ ዘንድ መነጋገሪያ አድርጎታል።

በአዳማው የኢህአዴግ ጉባኤ ላይ በመገኘት ውድ ሽልማቱን ለሟቹ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር በማበርከት የመንግስት ቴሌቪዥን ላይ የታየው ሃይሌ፤ በዚያው ጉባኤ ላይ አቶ መለስንና ኢህአዴግን ማሞገሱ በወቅቱ በርካታ አስተያየት እንዲሰነዘርበት ምክንያት መሆኑ አይዘነጋም። የጎልጉል የአዲስ አበባ መረጃ አቀባይ ያነጋገራቸው እንዳሉት ሃይሌ ወደ ፖለቲካው መንደር በፍጥነት እየተንደረደረ መሆኑን በማስረዳት የሚያውቁትንም ተናግረዋል።

ጣና ሃይቅ ዳርቻ ከልማት ባንክ በአርባ ሚሊዮን ብር የገዛውን ሆቴል ከሁለት ወር በኋላ ሼኽ መሃመድ አላሙዲ በትዕዛዝ እንደነጠቁት በታላቅ ቅሬታ ለህዝብ አስታውቆ የነበረው ሃይሌ የባህር ዳርን ቤተ መንግስት የመጠቅለል ታላቅ ፍላጎት እንዳለው ነው የቅርብ ወዳጁ ለመረጃ አቀባያችንየተናገሩት።

በኦሜድላ ስፖርት ክለብ ውስጥ ሰራተኛ የነበሩትና ለደህንነታቸው ሲሉ ስማቸው እንዳይጠቀስ የጠየቁ የሃይሌ ቅርብ ሰው “ሃይሌ ቤተመንግስትን ይወዳል። ኢትዮጵያንም የመምራት ህልም አለው” በማለት ጭራሽ ተሰምቶ በማያውቀው ጉዳይ አስተያየታቸውን ይጀምራሉ።

የአማራ ክልል መንግስት ለሲድኒ ኦሊምፒክ ጀግኖች ግብዣ ባደረገበት ወቅት የባህር ዳር ቤተ መንግስት ጎብኝተው እንደነበር አስተያየት ሰጪው ያስታውሳሉ። ሃይሌ የጃንሆይን መኝታ ክፍል ከተመለከተ በኋላ አሰበ። ከአፍታ በኋላ አልጋቸው ላይ ተቀመጠ። አልጋውን ወደ ላይ ወደታች ካወዛወዘው በኋላ “… ይህንን ቤተ መንግስት…” በማለት እንደሚኖርበት መዛቱን አስታውሰው ተናግረዋል።

ሃይሌ ዝም ብሎ እንደማይናገር ያወሱት እኚሁ በቅርብ የሚያውቁት ሰው ሃይሌ ይህንኑ ህልሙን ተግባራዊ ለማድረግ ዘመቻ የጀመረ እንደሚመስላቸው አስታውቀዋል። በቀጣዩ 2005 ምርጫ ሃይሌ እንደሚሳተፍ በርግጠኛነት ተናግረዋል። ሃይሌ ሁለት ጊዜ በግል ፓርላማ ለመግባት እንደሚወዳደር ካስታወቀ በኋላ ባልታወቀ ምክንያት ራሱን ከምርጫ ዘመቻ ማግለሉን መግለጹ ይታዋሳል።

ሃይሌ ፖለቲከኛ የመሆን የኖረ ህልም እንዳለው ያወሱት ባልደረባው ከተናገሩት በተቃራኒ ሃይሌ የፈለገውን መሆንና ማድረግ የግል ውሳኔው እንደሆነ የሚከራከሩለት አልጠፉም። ሃይሌ ሃብት አለው፣ ከፍተኛ ዝና ገንብቷል። ኢትዮጵያዊያን የማይረዱት እውቅናና ክብር በውጪው ዓለም እንዳለው የሚገልጹት ተከራካሪዎች “አንድ ሰው በተናገረ ቁጥር ለንግግሩ ቀንድና ጭራ መቀጠል ነውር ነው። ሰዎች የመሰላቸውን እንዳይናገሩም የሚገድብ ክፉ ልምድ ነው” ባይ ናቸው። “አያይዘውም ሃይሌ የኢህአዴግ አባል ቢሆን እንኳ አስገራሚ አይሆንም” በማለት ጠርዝ ደርሰው ይሟገታሉ።

በርካታ አትሌቶች የኦህዴድ አባላት እንደሆኑ የሚጠቁሙት እነዚህ የሃይሌ ተከራካሪዎች “ሃይሌ ኢህአዴግን ቢቀላቀል መነጋገሪያ የሚሆነው ጉዳይ ብአዴን ወይስ ኦህዴድ ይሆናል የሚለው ነው” ብለዋል። አርሲ የተወለደው ሃይሌ በሩጫ ከተሳካለት በኋላ በተለያዩ ጉዳዮችና መጠነኛ ግንባታ ወደ ባህር ዳር መጠጋጋቱ በትውልድ አካባቢው ተወላጆች ቅሬታ እንዳስነሳበት በተለያዩ ጊዚያቶች መዘገቡ የሚታወስ ነው።
